Audiences at Malvern Theatres can enjoy a special concert of spring music, during the Easter week.

On Wednesday, April 17, violinist Rachel Podger, who was Gramophone’s Artist of the Year in 2018, will join the celebrated vocal ensemble VOCES8 for a mixed programme of music for both voices and solo violin.

A spokesman said: "This is the first time VOCES8 have performed in Malvern, though their recordings have regularly topped the classical charts, with both contemporary and traditional repertoire.

"They’ll perform works by Bach, Monteverdi, Mendelssohn and Tallis, alongside pieces by Jonathan Dove, James MacMillan and Owain Park."

Malvern Theatres’ Marketing Director Fred Moroni said: "These are some of the finest musicians working today and we’re delighted to welcome them to Malvern. Easter has always inspired composers of choral and devotional music and this innovative collaboration is perfect for the time of year."

Described by The Times as "the unsurpassed British glory of the Baroque violin", Rachel Podger is considered one of the most inspirational musicians working today. She has established herself as a leading interpreter of the music of the Baroque and Classical periods.

VOCES8 was founded in 2003 by ex-choristers of Westminster Abbey "and has since established itself at the forefront of international choral music".

The concert takes place at the Forum Theatre Malvern on April 17 at 7.45pm. Tickets: 01684 892277.
