A Worcestershire politician has said she is ‘outraged’ at the continuing road works saga on a busy town road in the county.

Homebuilder Persimmon Homes (PH) are working with Worcestershire City Council to carry out road improvements on the junction of Station Road and Wyre Road, Pershore, as part of access to their new housing development, Wyre Meadows.

Pershore councillor, Liz Tucker said: “I’m completely fed up with the issues on this road.

“People living nearby will have to drive all the way to Drakes Broughton to get home to avoid the road when the town centre is in spitting distance.

“I’m outraged at the roadworks plan.

“We’ve had work carried out on this road for over three years.”

Sharn Blatch, aged 22, who works at ProDrive Recruitment located on Pershore Trading Estate off Station Road, said:”We have many of our temporary workers spotting our vacancies in our window display.

“I think when the road closes we won’t have the same level of foot-fall so our business could suffer.

“The temporary lights at the junction are already causing long delays at peak times for us and our workers.

“We’ve received no letter to tell us what’s going on.”

John Wood, 42, who runs ‘Smoking Jacks’ a roadside mobile fast food outlet on the PTE, is more optimistic.

He said:”I recon as people get diverted past my food van my business could do well if they stop for something to eat.

Paul Lappin, technical manager at PH, said: “We apologise for the temporary inconvenience with the road closure, but endeavour to complete the works with the least possible disruption.

“While the junction will be closed to through traffic, access to frontages and properties within the Wyre Meadows development will be maintained at all times.”

The diversion route is via the A44 to Egdon, then the B4084 Egdon Lane and B4084 Worcester Lane through Drakes Broughton for southbound traffic and the same for northbound traffic.

Work will be carried out from April 18 until the 28.
