Spencer James has been the lead vocalist and guitarist with legendary sixties super group The Searchers for the last thirty three years.

And the good news is, he has a St George’s Day dig at The Huntingdon Hall in Worcester.

A spokesman said: “Having taken over from Mike Pender, he has seen phenomenal success with them over that time.

“With The Searchers retiring at the end of March this year, local impresario John Banner – who will be hosting this (his sixteenth consecutive, and according to him his last) Annual St George’s Day Special – is delighted that Spencer has agreed to do his first solo theatre show for him at Huntingdon Hall.”

The spokesman added: “The Searchers have performed at just about every prestigious venue in the world, including Wembley Stadium (along with Sir Cliff Richard), the National Indoor Arena (Millenium New Year, also with Sir Cliff), the London Palladium, Royal Albert Hall, Madison Square Gardens and Las Vegas.

“They have also toured extensively to virtually every venue in the UK, plus Australia, Canada, the Falkland Islands, Hong Kong, Singapore and New Zealand – plus Europe, the Middle East and various other locations all over the world, too numerous to mention.”

But Spencer’s claim to fame did not start with The Searchers.

The spokesman added: “Before Spencer joined The Searchers he was a member of a band called First Class and had his first big hit with a song called Beach Baby, which will be included in this show. The group appeared on many TV shows, including Top of the Pops, Lift Off with Ayshea (Brough) and many more.

“Guaranteed to include special guests, the odd surprise, and to end up with a patriotic flag-waving version (flags supplied) of Land of Hope and Glory, don’t miss the chance to say “...I was there...”
