A WOMAN from Kidderminster is through to the finals of a small business awards for her maternity cushion invention.

Anita Hill founded her start-up business Comfyse.com earlier this year, after spending two years developing the 'Cushy Cushion' for pregnant women and new mums to sit on when they are in discomfort due to piles or post-partum issues.

And just two months after the business was officially launched, founder Anita has reached the finals of the Woman Who Achieves Awards 2019 start-up category.

Anita told The Shuttle: "I am proud to have reached the finals of the Woman Who Achieves Awards. I took the plunge to start up my own business after my children had started school.

"It’s taken two years of work to develop my business idea including a brand new maternity cushion for women to sit on when they are in discomfort due to pregnancy piles or painful post-partum issues caused by childbirth."

Anita came up with the idea for the Cushy Cushion after finding it difficult to sit on flat surfaces following the birth of her first child in 2010.

The unique shape of the Cushy Cushion helps to relieve pressure from the perineum, bottom and coccyx.

Her invention has already been a finalist in the Baby Product Association's Innovation Awards in 2018.

"The journey has been exciting, inspiring and challenging," said Anita. "Now, having launched the business and our new innovative product, it’s wonderful to get the recognition from other female entrepreneurs and business leaders for what Comfyse has achieved so far.”

The Woman Who Achieves judges were particularly impressed by the concept of Anita's maternity cushion, with several of them having experienced discomfort during their own pregnancies.

After attending the finalist interviews at Coombe Abbey in Warwickshire at the start of April, Anita will find out the result at an awards ceremony on June 7.

Anita added: "Whatever happens at the finals, I am so proud to have gotten this far with a new business and a brand new product which I designed and is made here in the UK."
