CONGESTION.

It's a word that strikes dread into any commuter's heart.

And it appears many of our readers are among judging by the reaction to recent stories about changes, in progress, to the much-hated crossing in Croft Road and, in the pipeline, for the equally-loathed crossing on Pheasant Street, near Asda.

There was much joy at news that improvements were being made to these roads.

But, as Roger Groves points out on the front page today, those city centre pinch-points are not the city's only troublesome spots. He wants to see a review of Blackpole Road - where traffic appears to build up almost constantly near to the busy retail parks.

The county council's highways team says it's on a list to be reviewed within the next two years - little comfort to those living nearby or travelling through the area regularly.

We all need to do our bit - looking at greener alternatives to cars, or taking a more conscientious approach to our journeys and how we take them.

Or traffic problems run a real risk of strangling our otherwise beautiful city.
