MOTORISTS could face delays in and around Worcester city centre this month, as a series of roadworks get underway.

An extensive project which will see Sansome Street closed between Foregate Street and Sansome Place between 8-11am on nine Sunday mornings, was due to begin yesterday.

The work being carried out by Worcestershire County Council, will mean an alternative route via Foregate Street, Pierpoint Street, Sansome Walk, Sansome Place and vice versa will be followed, while window cleaning and gutter clearing takes place.

Works will be carried out on the following Sundays: May 12, 2019, July 7, 2019, September 8, 2019, November 3, 2019, January 5, 2020, March 1, 2020, May 10, 2020, July 5, 2020 and September 6, 2020.

Meanwhile, the bus lane in Foregate Street is set to be closed between Pierpoint Street and Shaw Street next Sunday, to allow Severn Trent to carry out remedial work.

Elsewhere, on the edge of the city, the A4440 Nunnery Way is set to have lanes closed from tomorrow to Thursday, while BT Openreach carries out work on fibre cabling.

Temporary traffic signals will be in place on Cranham Drive at its junction with Chalford Drive, until Friday, while Cadent Gas carries out work to divert gas mains.

More temporary lights will be installed on Farrier Street today, while Severn Trent carries out work to repair kerbs.

Ambleside Drive will also have lights at its junction with Elbury Park Drive until Friday, while Severn Trent carries out the final connection work on its mains renewal scheme.

And there will also be lights on Blackpole Road tomorrow.

Swinesherd Way at Whittington will have lane closures in place between Whittington Road and Wildwood Drive to allow work to fix an electricity fault to be carried out.

And the A38 Roman Way at Droitwich Spa will have lanes closed on Wednesday while work is carried out on signs.

Over in Malvern, Stocks Lane, Newland, will be closed today and tomorrow for Network Rail to maintain the level crossing.

And Langland Road will also close today between Orford Way and Madresfield Road for footway reconstruction. The closure could last until Friday, May 24.

Pump Street will be closed between North Malvern Road and Cowleigh Road tomorrow to allow street lighting to be maintained.

for Worcestershire Highways to carry out work on street lighting.

Temporary lights will be installed on Welland Road, Hanley Swan, until Thursday for the installation of a crossing.

And more lights will be on Drake Street, Welland, from today to allow Western Power Distribution to put in a mains supply to a new housing site.
