A Chihuahua who had become very overweight has found a new family and is doing well.

Doris, a little Chihuahua found herself at Worcestershire Animal Rescue Shelter (WARS) through no fault of her own, looking to find a new home and someone to live a life of happiness with.

Spencer Harris Community and Events Fundraiser at WARS said: "When Doris arrived at WARS she was very overweight and managed to carry herself around with a little waddle but with lots of grace. She found things a little tough at first, especially not having someone to cuddle up to when she went to sleep, but she very quickly won the hearts of everyone she encountered.

Doris was only 2 years old and had a smile that could melt any heart."

It wasn’t long before a series of fortunate events brought Doris into the life of Helen Mobbs.

Helen said, “I called at WARS one day to find a new dog bed for our Cocker Spaniel. As it happened, Doris was being walked across the car park by one of the excellent volunteers. I went over and introduced myself to Doris."

“I was instantly smitten by this little character, even though I hadn’t gone to WARS to find a dog. I went home and immediately talked to my partner about her and we agreed that I should enquire and advise WARS that if she should need a home, for us to be considered. A few weeks passed and I popped into WARS, again under the pretence of getting Toby some new toys. I asked the ladies at reception how Doris was getting on, I think at that stage she was being fostered by one of the volunteers and wasn’t ready for rehoming.”

“More days passed, and I called in to check if there was any news. I suggested that we could foster her long term if that would help her situation in any way. We completed the paperwork and after clearing the home check, Doris came to live with Toby and us all.”

Helen added, “A bouncy Cocker Spaniel and a Chihuahua? Well, Doris didn’t take long to tell Toby who was going to be the boss and he seemed quite happy with the arrangement. The WARS team sent Doris to us with a stash of goodies, her favourite toys, bed, food, harness and leads. We are regular visitors still to the WARS shop to purchase new coats and toys for Doris and Toby to keep them entertained and looking great.”
