IT was interesting to see the reaction to the Worcester News story about how the regular fireworks display which closes the Worcester Festival has been scrapped.
It must have been a difficult decision for organisers to make, and really it is a no-win situation.
On the one hand, the fireworks are a great spectacle and a fun way to close out the festival, but on the other hand, I can understand the concerns, particularly from pet owners who must dread the sound of fireworks, knowing what it does to their pets.
In short, the organisers are caught between a rock and a hard place, do they disappoint fans of the fireworks by removing them, but recognise that not everyone likes them, or do they keep the fireworks, knowing that there are people and animals who do not enjoy them at all.
There is really no right or wrong answer here, and so the decision, while disappointing to many, is welcomed by others, and we will have to wait and see what the replacement activities are at this year's festival in order to judge for ourselves whether or not it was worth it.
