JUMBO ART An African Elephant at West Midland Safari Park in Bewdley, Worcestershire has shown extraordinary artistic tendencies and a passion for art. With a paintbrush in her trunk - 16-year-old Five seems to enjoy every minute creating her masterpieces. To date she has painted in excess of 50 works of art, in a unique style that wouldn't look out of place in any contemporary art exhibition.

Five is an extremely intelligent Elephant, who picked up a paintbrush one day and appeared to try to paint. Staff then thought they would take her ability further and Five surprised everyone. When her keeper says 'paint', Five picks up her paintbrush and starts painting. When she is told 'OK', Five puts down the brush. She happily continues to paint in different colours, until her picture is completed.

West Midland Safari Park has three African Elephants that were re-homed from a private elephant orphanage in South Africa in 1998, when they were just five years old.
