A proposed cycle-footbridge near Worcester has been deferred at a public meeting so councillors can take more time to look at the proposal.

At the meeting, Malvern Hills District Councillor David Harrison said: “The District Council was initially unhappy with the design as people could throw bricks over the top and we suggested it should be double screened to prevent this from happening.

“The updated design now joins in with the new development.

“I’m not prepared to make any more comments as I want to reserve my right.”

Cllr Bob Bowley said: “The cycle-footbridge will be a fine place for youngsters to cycle on safety and to get around.”

Concerns were raised in discussion around the plans not being clear to show if the cycle and footpath will be segregated - a point raised by David Harrison.

Cllr Graham Ferguson from Kempsey Parish Council noted the new plan incorporated flood mitigation and a review of the bridge design and properties, which pleased him.

The proposed new cycle-footbridge footbridge will span Broomhall Way (Southern Link Road A4440),between the Ketch Roundabout and Norton Roundabout, providing a direct link between the existing housing and amenities at St. Peters and a new development south of Broomhall Way, which is part of the Worcester Urban Extension.

Developer Welbeck Strategic Land wants to build around 3,000 homes on open land near Kempsey and the Worcester Urban Extension also includes a hotel, shops, a primary school, a health surgery, businesses, a sports centre, parks and allotments.

The meeting took place on Monday June 3 and the next public Kempsey Parish Council meeting will take place on Monday June 10 at 7:30pm.
