AIMING to raise around £5,000 for St Richard’s Hospice is going to be a bit of a trek for one Worcester couple.
Because Mike Harris and Clodagh Lodge of Warndon Villages will be facing their challenge of a lifetime when they join 15 other trekkers to spend five days negotiating the dangers of the Nepalese Himalayas in November.
It will be their way of paying tribute to Mr Harris’s late mother, who received exceptional care from the hospice in 2010.
The pair have already organised a programme of lead-up events, one of which was a car treasure hunt from The Huntsman Inn, Green Street, Kempsey. The 44-mile route took competitors on a circular route around the South Worcestershire countryside and raised a total of £256.91. The day concluded with dinner and an evening raffle.
Mr Harris said: “We are extremely grateful for all the support we have received in being able to run this event. We approached the local community for prizes and have received an overwhelming amount of donations from businesses including Waitrose Droitwich, Worcester Racecourse, Lush, Malvern Spa and Cote Brasserie to assist our ongoing fundraising initiatives.”
The couple also thanked Sean Mason, owner of The Huntsman Inn, and his staff and caterers for their support of the treasure hunt
So far almost £2,500 has been raised by the intrepid adventurers via car boot sales and Grand National sweepstakes and via the generous support of Waitrose Community Matters and Tesco Warndon bag-packing. They are currently in the process of planning another car treasure hunt from The Red Lion, Droitwich, in July.
They would welcome support towards their venture from other interested parties. Donations can be made via their JustGiving page:
