FITNESS instructors will be offering free Boxfit sessions to the public to “give back to the community.”

Shawn Lacroix and Darryl Swallow, both from Worcester, have organised free fitness classes with the aim to provide an exercise hub for those who cannot afford lessons.

Mr Lacroix, aged 35 said: “Many people cannot afford classes. So, we want to offer these lessons to give everyone a chance. It doesn't matter if you've never boxed before as everyone has to start from somewhere.”

The exercise sessions - Fitness in the Park - will be held at Brickfields Park every Thursday from 7.30pm to 8.30pm. After each weekly session, a collection plate will go around where individuals will have the option to donate to the chosen charity for that week.

Mr Lacroix said: “We want to do a bit for charity and raise funds for local causes. We aim to help the community by building people’s confidence, provide a social space and offer them free classes to get fit.”

The sessions will include a combination of boxing drills incorporating pads and gloves and high intensity interval training. Mr Lacroix, who has been coaching boxing for two years, is a certified instructor and was trained at Hatton Academy, which is a course for ‘boxing for fitness’.

He said: “It has had quite a bit of interest already. We put on a taster session last week and there was a decent turnout. It was fun and everyone enjoyed it."

The sessions start today (June 13) and all abilities and ages are welcome to attend. For more information on Fitness in the Park, visit facebook.com/fitness109/
