IT’S less than a week to go until we celebrate the work that people do within education in the county at a glitzy black-tie gala.

The Worcestershire Education Awards, now running for its third year, has proven to be as popular as ever this year after receiving the largest number of nominations to date. Since the launch in January, we nominations had flooded in. More than 300 nominations were submitted, by individuals, schools and organisations who put their nominee forward for a chance to win an education award.

The gala awards night, which will be held at the University of Worcester Arena on Thursday, June 20 will be a ceremony celebrating the excellent work that has been shown in education across Worcestershire.

A live blog will be streaming which anyone interested can view to keep up to date with the award finalists and announcement of the winners. Guests will have the chance to hear inspirational speakers before the winners will be announced.

Motivational guest speaker, Alex Flynn will be at the event, where he will talk about his inspirational journey and discuss the challenges he has been faced with.

In 2008, Mr Flynn was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

However, this has not stopped him from running, cycling, walking, and swimming and completing the most daring challenges, all in aid of raising money for research into Parkinson’s - in which he has raised more than £1million.

This year’s awards have been supported by a host of sponsors including: Worcestershire County Council, The Royal Three Counties Show, Babcock Prime, Worcester Bosch and Heart of Worcestershire College. Tickets cost £40 per person. For more information, call 01905 748300.
