THE chairman of Worcestershire County Council, Peter Tomlinson, has raised the Armed Forces Day flag today (Monday) to honour Armed Forces Week.
The flag was raised today in a ceremony at County Hall by the chairman, along with vice-chairman Bob Brookes.
Across the country, local authorities, town and parish councils raise the Armed Forces Day flag on the Monday before Armed Forces Day.
The ceremony shows support to the serving armed forces community, as well as ex-service men and women.
Cllr Tomlinson said: " I have family who have served in the armed forces, and my oldest grandson is in the Stourport detachment of the army cadets, so I am very proud to have the special honour of raising the Armed Forces Day flag on behalf of Worcestershire County Council this year.
“Each year this ceremony raises awareness of the tremendous sacrifice our armed forces personnel make for the country. The flag raising is a symbol of our support to those who are currently protecting us and have protected us in the past.”
