ONE hundred dancers took part in a pop-up festival over the weekend.

Dancefest took over Worcester BID’s pop-up park on Saturday (July13), with an afternoon of dance.

They brought their Dancefest picnic to the park, where 100 dancers from their weekly children’s classes and youth companies performed dance that they had created throughout the summer term, all based on the theme of games.

An audience of around 400 people sat on blankets and deckchairs around Cathedral Square, brought picnics, and enjoyed a fun afternoon of dance and music for the whole family.

Clare Wood, who organised the event, said: “It was such a great day of dance. We shared Cathedral Square with singers from WODYS and it was such a wonderful atmosphere – like a mini festival.

“We’re really grateful to Worcester BID for inviting us to be part of their brilliant pop up park.”

If you’d like to get involved with Dancefest over the summer, you’ll find them at Worcester Community Trust’s KidzPlay and at The Worcester Show on August 11.

Anyone is welcome to take part in their summer school between July 29 to August 2.

Dancefest began in 1990 as a festival to celebrate and raise the profile of dance and also encourage people to express themselves through moving.

It provides a range of opportunities to enable people to take part in dance. More than 30 classes are offered each week, and are based in a wide variety of venues across Worcestershire and Herefordshire.

Last year the programme attracted nearly 7,000 people as participants, with total attendances of 24,238 and around 5,000 people as audience.

Dancefest is an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation and also receives funding from Worcester Municipal Charities, The Bransford Trust, Worcester City Council and The Roger and Douglas Turner Charitable Trust
