THE date for the inquest of Alessandro Frumenzi, the tragic teenager who died after drowning in the River Severn, has been announced.

And money towards funeral costs is continuing to be donated to a crowdfunding campaign set up by his friends and family.

Mr Frumenzi, from Leverkusen but living in Worcester, was spotted going into the river off Sabrina Bridge in the early hours of June 29. That sparked a major search operation for the 18-year-old, including a police helicopter and fire crews using inflatable boats.

That search tragically came to end when the body of the Heart of Worcestershire College student was found in the River Severn near Kempsey.

His inquest has now been scheduled to take place on the afternoon of September 9, at Worcestershire Coroner’s Court in Stourport. It is listed for two hours, with coroner David Donald William Reid.

Meanwhile the Go Fund Me page has now reached £1,050 towards a £3,000 target. On the page a statement from Mr Frumenzi’s family said: “Following the unfortunate tragedy his family and friends ask for help to be able to cover the cost of his funeral.

“The family and friends are heartbroken and traumatised to lose someone this close to our hearts but with love and support, he will always be remembered and looking over us and in our thoughts.”

Donations have included £100 from an anonymous donor, and a number of £50 donations.

A message left on the page said: “Never had the pleasure of meeting this young man but have learned so much about him from my daughter - Alex has touched so many hearts.”

And another said: “My children will miss your kind hearted son immensely - we are so very sorry for your whole family. Alessandro will be missed by all who loved him.”

Floral tributes for Mr Frumenzi were still underneath Sabrina Bridge yesterday.

Worcester City Council has said there is no immediate plans to remove the flowers.
