IF you find yourself with one hour or so to spare this August, why not pop down to the Huntingdon Hall and enjoy great music, as part of the Worcester Festival?

There will be a series of Worcester Festival concerts that’ll last ‘About An Hour’ – perfect for a summer’s afternoon.

A spokesman said: “The first ‘About An Hour’ concert will see Worcester organist John Brierley playing the lovely 1840 John Nicholson organ at Huntingdon Hall on Tuesday August 13. Well known to Worcester Live audiences as musical director for many Worcester Rep in the Commandery open air productions, John also gives recitals in cathedrals, concert halls and major churches throughout the country.

“His highly enjoyable programme for the afternoon includes the famous Toccata and Fugue in D minor by J. S. Bach and the Boëllmann Suite Gothique. There will even be an opportunity to play ‘spot the tune’ in Noel Rawsthorne’s Hornpipe Humoresque.”

The spokesman added: “And after a hard day’s work on Tuesday August 20, why not come and let your hair down and recharge your batteries for ‘About An Hour’ to the sound of Duo Armande! This unique and versatile duo comprises Shulah Oliver (violin/voila) and Claire Hawkes (clarinet), who will be presenting Let’s Dance, a programme of music inspired by dance during this second concert of the series.

“Whether it is music that conjures up the elegance of the ballroom, or the gracefulness of Tchaikovsky’s fabulous ballets, or the fiery passion of tangos that you love, you are sure to be tapping your toes along to this uplifting programme.”

The third and final concert of the ‘About An Hour’ series will have a programme of English Music, presented by tenor Wilhelm Theunissen. Since moving to England in 2003, South African Wilhelm, has performed as soloist with various ensembles, including the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.
