A FAMILY who are appealing to get their dog back after placing him in the care of a rescue centre has sparked a mixed reaction from the Worcester News readers.

Jan Bennett decided to put the family’s 11-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Bronson, in the care of the Senior Staffy Club, after her son, Stuart, died in May following a long-term illness.

After putting Bronson in care, the family realised they made the “wrong decision” and applied to get their dog back.

However, throughout the process, Bronson had been re-homed.

Laura Blandford said: “Poor Bronson. Lost his dad and then was abandoned by his so-called family. They didn't think of his feeling at all, just themselves and still are thinking only of themselves and not Bronson. They don’t deserve him back. They change their minds about a living being like it's nothing. Dog is for life. You gave him up knowing he would be adopted you gave up all legal right and I have no sympathy.”

Debbie Evans said: “This is a very sad situation, but I'm sure the rescue thought long and hard about whether the dog would be best going back to the family who gave him up, or to seek a new loving home for him where he'd see out his days in a new home. The rescue would have his best interest at heart.”

Sarah Harris said: “Do people not think they might of had enough to cope with after the death of their son that they might of put him in there temporarily? It does not say they put him up for adoption. When I lost my dad, I could not face going to my horse as it’s something I had always done with him. I feel for the family.”

Julie Smith said: “When you’re going through bereavement you can’t think properly and make rash decision. That’s why you should stop and look at the larger picture before making a decision you will regret.”

Sacha Alex said: “They commit the biggest betrayal of trust and they want the dog back? Hope the dog has got a true family now.”
