A TEENAGER’S drunken night out in Worcester proved costly after he was fined by magistrates.

Antonio O’Shaughnessy, of Swift Gardens in Southam, was on a night out when he was spotted by police who were on patrol in Angel Street, between 1.30am and 2.20am on July 28.

Nichola Ritchie, prosecuting, said: “Officers on mobile patrol noted the defendant was unsteady on his feet and shouting.

“He was asked to leave, but he repeatedly made (abusive) comments to officers.”

Miss Ritchie said that despite officers speaking to O'Shaughnessy, the 18-year-old kept shouting really loud, and it took several minutes for him to leave the area.

When he did leave, he ended up returning to Angel Street not long afterwards, by which point the officers had gone to nearby McDonald's in Foregate Street to deal with another situation.

Miss Ritchie said: “When they were in the McDonald’s they saw him again.

“Again he has been asked to leave.”

Miss Ritchie said thar after a police officer spotted him running back in the direction of the town centre, this finally led to his arrest for being drunk and disorderly.

O’Shaughnessy, representing himself, was asked if there was anything he wanted to say, to which he simply replied: “I was drunk that night, I will take the full consequences for what happened.”

Antony Fussey, chairman of the magistrates bench, said: “If you live in Southam, what were you doing in Worcester that night?”

O’Shaughnessy answered: “I came to see a friend in Kidderminster, and we decided to go out in Worcester.”

The court also heard that O’Shaughnessy was paying off £500 in outstanding fines owed to the court from a previous offence.

Magistrates fined O’Shaughnessy £53, and he was told to pay costs of £135 and a victim surcharge of £32.

O’Shaughnessy was given two months to pay the total amount of £220.
