DESPITE facing challenges of her own, an 11-year-old with a genetic condition took the time to help other children by donating her hair to charity.

Mya Powers, 11 was born with Cystic Fibrosis. On Monday she decided to have her hair cut for The Little Princess Trust, a charity that provides wigs for children and young people who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment.

Mya’s mum Aliza Davis said: "She is always watching videos and things on YouTube about other children who are poorly. So she wanted to donate her hair. Mya is fighting her own battle every day but is still doing something really nice for another person."

Miss Davis said Cystic Fibrosis affects Mya's life in a number of ways: “She has been in and out of hospital throughout her life. She takes up to 30 tablets a day. She has to get up at 5:30 in the morning to do physio and nebulisers before school. She’s had a lot of hospital admissions and she has had a really rough year this year.”

"Mya Loves swimming, she loves dancing, she is just lovely and always thinks of others before herself. She is really kind and caring. She is so tough. She has been through so much, and it's life-long but she never complains, she just gets on with it." Miss Davies said.

Miss Davis said throughout her life, Mya from Kempsey has had to visit Worcestershire Royal Hospital and Birmingham Children's Hospital.

Miss Davis said: "The Cystic Fibrosis team at Worcestershire are amazing. They are just like your family. They have known Mya since she was born. So are the staff on the children's ward at Birmingham, they do an amazing job."

Mya had her hair cut at Andrew Slater Hairdressing in Malvern. Her hair had to be a certain length for it to be donated to The Little Princess Trust.
