Our article this week will focus on a project created to help businesses and individuals alike unlock their devices after a ransomware attack.

The project, named No More Ransom! is a collaboration between National High Tech Crime Unit of Netherlands’ police, the European Crime Centre, Kaspersky and McAfee, and is designed to provide a way out for any victims that have had their files encrypted.

The initiative uses research to collate decryption tools for ransomware such as Gandcrab, PewCrypt, Mira and many others. While it does not offer the ability to decrypt everything, there are a vast number of attacks that have been extensively researched, and that now have a method of reversing the damage they cause.

If you are unsure of what type of ransomware you have been affected by, No More Ransom! has even included a handy tool for you to upload any affected file, and it will analyse and detect which type of encryption is used and provide the corresponding decryption tool to revert your device to its original state.

The creators of the project continue to encourage visitors to avoid paying ransomware fees, as it is not guaranteed that you will receive your files back and it is likely that you will waste a large amount of money with a very low likelihood of recovery.

Along with the masses of benefits already provided with detection and decryption tools, the project also features Q&As, along with guidance to help you understand how to better protect your network against ransomware attacks.

Ransomware is becoming a critical issue in more recent years, and it is paramount that you protect your infrastructure against these attacks and understand that services such as No More Ransom! are available if you are a victim of this.
