TODAY'S old picture dates back to July 1977, when the 2nd Battalion of the Mercian Volunteers became the fort volunteer outfit in the Army to have its colour presented by the Queen, as part of her Jubilee tour of the west Midlands. She is pictured inspecting the troops, escorted by commanding officer Lieutenant-Colonel Edward vines, in civilian life a farmer from Ross-on-Wye.
