For those of us who are recovering from the chaos which was the school holidays the house may feel a little empty, rather quiet, which makes it the perfect time to declutter.

Here are my top tips to convert your cupboard clear-out into cash and all in the name of tidying up.

DO THE WARDROBE WORKOUT

If you haven’t worn it for more than a year then it’s unlikely that you’ll ever wear it again.

The same goes for everyone else in the house, so sift those rails and drawers and sell online or swap with friends.

GIVE THE GARAGE AND SHED A SHAKE UP

No time like the present to clear out the clutter and make a bit of money whilst you’re doing it.

KITCHEN CUPBOARD CLEARCUT

Tackle a shelf at a time and plan this week’s meals around the tins and packets which seem to have been forgotten about as they were pushed out of sight.

When you’ve sorted the food out take a look under the sink, I guarantee that you have more cleaning products than you thought you had.

FREEZER FREE UP

Similar to the kitchen cupboards, dig down to the bottom of the freezer and add these long-forgotten bits and bobs to your meal plan.

You will be amazed at what you find and the difference it will make to this and possibly next week’s grocery bill.

When it comes to clearing out the clutter you can only win. Putting the big items up for sale either through one of the online sales sites or a simple card on your local supermarket notice board or newsagents can work wonders, putting cash in your pocket and freeing up floor, shelf, drawer and hanging space around the house.
