NEW Armed Forces Champions have been welcomed to the Worcestershire Armed Forces Covenant Partnership.

Five Councillors from across Worcestershire have been named as the champions, pledging to offer support and promote the needs of veterans in their area.

The Partnership is a group made up of charities and organisations that have contact with veterans in Worcestershire.

Armed Forces Champions have been appointed by district councils across Worcestershire to help to provide a perspective on services like housing that might be accessed by the armed forces community.

Councillor Chris Mitchell will represent Worcester, Councillor Nicky Gale and Councillor Susie Griffiths will represent the Wyre Forest, Councillor Richard Morris will represent Wychavon, and Councillor Martin Allen will represent Malvern Hills.

They have all been appointed to work within their organisation to raise awareness of the Armed Forces Covenant.

Councillor Lucy Hodgson, cabinet member with responsibility for communities at Worcestershire County Council, said: “I am delighted to welcome the new armed forces champions to the partnership.

“The role of armed forces champion provides valuable feedback from our district councils and allows us to get perspectives from across Worcestershire.

" It also allows us to spread the word of the Armed Forces Covenant across the county.

“I look forward to working with the champions and hearing more about the individual issues facing the district councils.”
