A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, while two others have also been arrested after a man was stabbed in the city centre.

Officers swooped on a Worcester address this afternoon and arrested a 39-year-old man, while a woman aged 44 and a man aged 54, both from the city, have also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

The condition of the victim, named locally as Paul Gill, “remains serious” a spokesman for West Mercia Police has told us, and he is in hospital.

The incident took place on Friday evening around 5.55pm in Nash’s Passage, an alley which connects New Street with City Walls Road.

Having emerged bleeding heavily from the alleyway, the victim, in his 30s, made his way down to Charles Street where he collapsed, eyewitnesses have said.

“There was a lot of blood, but he didn’t look like he was going to fall over,” said a witness, who saw a confrontation in the passage, but had not realised initially there had been a stabbing. “He had blood pouring all down the side of his head,” he added.

The police were apparently speaking to the occupants of a flat in Nash’s Passage, outside which the attack is believed to have taken place, on Saturday morning.

Another witness told the Worcester News on Friday: “The lad ran out of the alleyway, then took his top off and it was clear he’d been stabbed about five times.

“He was stood there a long time before anyone realised what had happened. When he took his shirt off there was loads of blood, it went all over the pavement.”

Paramedics treated the man outside Wise Owl Toys, with all of Charles Street, as well as part of New Street and the alleyway, next to The Kings Gallery, all taped off.

Armed officers and police dogs were also at the scene and the following morning there was still a police presence.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said yesterday: “On arrival, we found one patient, a man, who was treated for serious injuries and he was taken to hospital for further treatment.”

In a statement released on Saturday morning, Detective Sergeant Dan Fenn said: “This is believed to be an isolated incident with no wider threat to the public.

“Investigations are ongoing and we are appealing for any witnesses to this assault.”
