A WARRANT for the arrest of a woman who bit a child’s face has been issued by a judge after she failed to turn up at court.
After being delayed, Cara Drummond, previously of Worcester, was supposed to finally be sentenced for assaulting or ill-treating a child on Monday.
The offence took place on May 18 last year, and happened just a week after she was handed a suspended sentence for smashing a woman’s head off a takeaway counter and punching someone else.
The 22-year-old, now of Mount Street, Redditch, was convicted of the biting offence at Kidderminster Magistrates Court in April, and was originally due to be sentenced at Worcester Crown Court in June.
On September 23, her barrister, Abigail Nixon, was granted an adjournment for a psychiatric report to be prepared on behalf of her client, telling the court that Drummond had been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder and PTSD.
But in the latest short hearing over the case, held on Monday, Miss Nixon told Judge Nicolas Cartwright at noon that she had been making enquiries throughout the morning to find her client, who had failed to attend court.
Miss Nixon explained that her colleagues had spoken to Drummond, who had said she was on her way – but Miss Nixon then told the judge that Drummond was unlikely to turn up.
Miss Nixon said that Drummond had also terminated an interview for the psychiatric report, adding “it seems clear I can’t carry that on anymore”.
The judge said he would "issue the bench warrant” for the arrest of Drummond.
