A RETIRED cashier who sold wine in the city has turned 100.

Alwyne Turner worked at Malpas Stallard, a wine merchants in Fish Street, Worcester for 40 years.

Mrs Turner now lives at Bedwardine House Care Home in Rushwick.

Victoria Lavender-Mew, proprietor and care manager of Bedwardine House described Mrs Turner as a model resident.

Mrs Lavender- Mew said: "Mrs Turner joined us in May 2016. She has always had a happy and lively personality, laughing and joking with staff and other residents, and also joining in the daily activities.

"She loved having visits to our in-house hairdresser. Although now confined to her bed, she still shares a joke with her carers, and was delighted with the birthday decorations, cards, birthday cake and visitors on the day."

Mr Turner kept in contact for a long time with Jeanie and Michael who were her bosses. In her career Mrs Turner also worked at LF Woods as a book keeper.

Mrs Turner eventually retired completely aged 94, after returning to work as a book keeper for a few years.

Mrs Turner was born in Coventry on October 2 1919. She married Harry on March 20 1953. They married in St John's Church. Harry passed away in hospital from a long illness.

In her life Mrs Turner travelled to California with her niece. They visited Palm Springs and Las Vegas. She also travelled to France and Austria.

Two years after retiring Mrs Turner decided to go into a care home. She went to Bedwardine House for two weeks respite but then decided to stay.

Mrs Turner's niece Ann Coles said: "My aunt could not have been looked after at a better place than Bedwardine House. She is always saying how well she is being looked after."
