Singin’ In The Rain character Don Lockwood has no beard, and so leading man Matthew Sudworth has bravely faced the razor for his role in the latest Worcester Operatic and Dramatic Society’s latest musical.

Now Matthew has suffered for his art, WODS will be entertaining audiences with a real Hollywood classic from October 15 to October 19 at The Swan Theatre, and the

clean-shaven Matthew is sure to be a talking point.

Because for Matthew, of course, before Singin’ In The Rain, it was a case of sitting stoically in the chair.

A spokesman said: “Matthew asked his hairdresser Jenna, at Goodlife barbers in Worcester for a Gene Kelly look alike and she did a fantastic job!

“Made famous by Gene Kelly, the part of Don is an all singing all dancing role. Matthew has learnt to tap especially for the part and has spent hours perfecting this challenging role. He trained in musical theatre and has been treading the boards from a very young age .

“Whether it be in live bands, tribute acts or in a show , he is never far from bright lights!”

First appearing in Malvern at the tender age of seven, playing Nibs in Peter Pan with Frank Finlay and Toyah Willcox ,he has gone from strength to strength.

Needless to say, at that tender age he had no beard.

The spokesman said: “Matthew has appeared in many WODS and WODYS productions and performed all over the world .

“His Favourite parts include Galileo in We will Rock You and Simon in Jesus Chris Superstar.’

“Now he is very much looking forward to playing the role of Don.”
