TWO people have been rushed to hospital after a fire broke out in a terraced house in Worcester.

A man and woman were treated for smoke inhalation and then taken to hospital by ambulance, following the fire at a house in Bedwardine Road in St John's.

Occupants of the neighbouring properties were evacuated from the houses as a safety precaution.

A window was broken and a ladder was raised up to the skylight of the house, so that firefighters could access the property.

Bedwardine Road has been closed off.

Station Commander Lee Watson told the Worcester News: “Two people were evacuated from the property.

"Crews worked effectively and efficiently to bring the fire under control working with West Mercia Police to evacuate neighbouring properties.

"West Midlands Ambulance Service arrived to take care of the casualties from the incident.

"There is a fire investigation in progress, but it is not thought to be suspicious in any way.

"Thank you to all the emergency services in attendance for a joint effort and the communities in bringing this incident to a safe and prompt conclusion.”
