THE University of Worcester's vice chancellor has spoken of the importance of recognising the skill and hard work of those who work in education, as the establishment once again partners with the Worcester News for our annual awards.

The university has teamed up with the Worcester News for the fourth time to help run next year's Worcestershire Education Awards.

Professor David Green, vice chancellor and chief executive at the University of Worcester, said: “The university is delighted to be sponsoring the Worcestershire Education Awards again.

"Over the past three years, these awards have recognised so many outstanding teachers, school leaders, support workers and other educationalists who work hard every day to provide a first class experience for children in our county’s schools.

"The achievements of these inspirational teachers and educationalists are even more remarkable given the major cuts in funding which have hit schools and colleges throughout the county and the country so very hard in recent years.

“The university is proud to be in partnership with over 500 schools in our region. We were founded just after World War II with a mission to educate teachers to 'win the peace through education’ and we are now one of the country’s major providers of education, training and research for the children’s workforce.

"Over the past seven decades the university has educated tens of thousands of outstanding teachers who make a positive difference every school day to children's lives and opportunities.

“As a university whose roots are firmly founded in educating the very best teachers and which is committed to the communities we serve, we are proud to be involved in this annual celebration of education and are delighted that the Worcester News and their owner Newsquest have taken this important initiative to celebrate the very best of dedicated service to children and the community.”
