TWO men have been charged as part of an arson investigation in Blackburn,

Police were called to Rothesay Road on Thursday, November 21, after a fire ripped through some flats at around 6.30am.

Two hours later, officers were called to Moorland Avenue in the town after a 24-year-old man from Blackburn was found with a serious head injury.

The man has since been released.

A man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of assault and later released under investigation.

Both incidents were believed to be linked.

Following investigation two men were later arrested by police in connection with the arson attack.

Lewis Clough, 33, of Perry Street, Darwen and Thomas Bank, 24, of Hilton Road, Darwen, have been charged with arson with intent to endanger life.

Both were remanded to appear at Preston Magistrates’ Court on Saturday and have since been remanded to prison.

They are both set to appear at Preston Crown Court on December 23.

A police spokesman said: "Thank you for the bravery of the witnesses who have assisted the investigation."
