PLANS to build a new business park and 36 homes on the edge of the city have moved a step forward.

St Modwen already has overall permission to build 255 homes as part of a major urban extension of Worcester as well as a bridge across the A4440, commercial and business space and public open space on land between Taylor's Lane, Norton Lane and Broomhall Way.

Formal designs have now been submitted to planners at Malvern Hills District Council for some of the homes and two industrial units.

Much of the green space would be built as part of the first phase as well as a children's play area.

Allotments would also be built in the corner of the site near to the business park.

Two industrial units, one 30,000 square feet and the other 43,000 square feet, would form Broomhall Business Park.

The units would also be accompanied by 70 car parking spaces, cycle and motorcycle parking and a large loading area for lorry parking.

No businesses have yet been secured to take over the units, according to a statement accompanying the planning application.

A new road off Norton Road would also be built to give access to the new business park.

If approved, it would be the start of one of many housing developments on the edge of Worcester.

The huge developments, which form part of urban extensions to the west and south of Worcester and were approved between 2017 and January this year, and include a massive £500 million, 2,204-home 'super village between St Peter's and Kempsey, the 255-homes plan between the A4440 on the edge of the city and Taylor's Lane and two massive plans in Lower Broadheath near Worcester which total 2,365 homes.

Earlier this year, Worcester City Council, Malvern Hills District Council and Wychavon District Council rejected Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust's request for more than £7 million to help cover the cost of future demand.

The plans can be viewed via the planning section of MHDC's website. The application numbers are 19/01803/RM and 19/01851/RM.
