A COUNCILLOR has hit out at fly-tippers, calling them “parasites”.

Martin Allen, district councillor for Upton and Hanley, said: “This is not the first time fly-tipping has taken place in the area.

“These people are thoughtless and only think about themselves instead of the wider community.

“It’s a unfavourable side of modern living where people don’t care about residents or wildlife.

“I want the people responsible prosecuted within the full limits of the law.”

In a tweet Malvern Cops said: “Someone had a New Year tidy up.

“Unfortunately, they thought it would be a good idea to make their rubbish someone else’s issue.”

Police are calling for anyone with information to contact them by direct message on Twitter.

Tim Lewis, administration and amenities manager at Malvern Hills District Council, said: “We can confirm that we received a report of fly-tipping on the access track to Home Farm, near the British Legion in Hanley Swan, which we have cleared [3 January].

“Fly-tipping is a criminal offence and can result in a hefty fine or even court action.

“In this case, upon investigation we were able to find evidence which will be used to pursue and prosecute the offender.

“Not only is fly-tipping dangerous and costly to the tax-payer but it is also a blight on our beautiful district."

The offence is punishable by a fine up to £50,000 or a 12 month prison sentence if convicted in court. Anyone concerned about fly-tipping can submit a report at: www.malvernhills.gov.uk/fly-tipping-and-littering.
