A STREET cafe which feeds rough sleepers in the city is pleading for donations to help buy a new van.

Nic Driscoll, 37, runs the Worcester Street Cafe alongside Kylie Kelly and Gemma Scott.

They have launched a desperate appeal to get a new van as the cafe's current one is ‘on the way out.’

Miss Driscoll said: “Our van is seriously poorly and we are now in a position that we need to replace it after numerous temporary fixes.

"We need a van to carry our hot water urn, tables and all the equipment to Copenhagen Street where we feed our homeless and vulnerable.

“It is not sustainable for us to carry such a large number of items in our cars.”

The team wants to raise £4,000, saying their previous van which was given to them by M. Pinches & Sons, Transport, in 2018, is no longer safe for use.

Miss Driscoll added: "Pinches did donate a van to us last year. We were really lucky but the electrics have gone.

“We have some funds but these have been raised to provide food for the homeless and we wish to remain fully transparent with what we are fundraising (money) for. We need to raise £3,000-£4,000 to get a reliable, decent van and I will update daily with the total amount raised.

“We need to raise some funds ASAP to get us another van as we will really struggle without one.

"If you feel able to make a donation to help towards replacing the van we would be extremely grateful.”

The group has already raised £550 through its online crowdfunding page for the van.

You can donate on www.gofundme.com or find the Worcester Street Cafe on Facebook for more information.

Four nights a week the project sets up tables in Copenhagen Street and give out hot drinks, freshly cooked meals and puddings, cooked by volunteers or donated by local businesses such as Greggs.

Worcester Street Cafe serves food outside the old fire station, in Copenhagen Street, between 7.30pm and 8.30pm from Monday to Thursday.
