A CANNABIS user smashed the windows of a house, leaving two children ‘petrified.’

Billy Loveridge smashed the lounge window of the home in Worcester during a row with the man living there and while the victim’s two children were inside.

The 29-year-old of Perrins Way, Bevere, near Worcester admitted criminal damage when he appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court on Thursday following the incident on December 2 last year.

Kerry Lovegrove, prosecuting, said the man described Loveridge as ‘drunk’ when he arrived at his house ‘and so closes the door with the aim to protect himself and his family’.

“It’s then that the defendant has proceeded to kick the door and goes to find the lid of a freezer and uses that to smash the window of the lounge,” said Miss Lovegrove.

Loveridge made a full admission in his police interview. A mother and her children were in the house at the time.

“As a result of the incident they both feel scared in the property when they’re left on their own,” said Miss Lovegrove who described the children as being ‘petrified’ by what happened.

Mark Lister, for Loveridge, said his client was ‘fairly lightly convicted’ and the last time he was in trouble was in 2017. He has one previous conviction for criminal damage from October 2017. Mr Lister also said Loveridge suffered from Bipolar disorder and had been treated by a psychiatrist.

“He uses cannabis to help him sleep and his psychiatrist is aware of that,” said Mr Lister.

Magistrates imposed a conditional discharge for six months, to pay costs of £165, compensation of £100 for the window and a £21 victim surcharge. The bench also imposed a restraining order which prevents him attending the Worcester address where the incident happened for 12 months.
