A SINKHOLE has closed a road in north Herefordshire this afternoon.

A Herefordshire Council spokesperson said the C1110 west of Pencombe has been closed following the discovery.

The road will remain closed overnight and investigations are set to begin in the morning.

A street in Hereford was closed for several days after a sinkhole appeared in the carriageway.

Union Street was closed on December 31 after the hole appeared, and did not open again until Monday, January 6.

Drivers were advised to use an alternative route via Gaol Street during the closure.

The road was previously closed in May 2015 after a similar hole appeared just metres from the new one.

The previous hole was filled in after Welsh Water engineers completed an investigation on the site.
