A SCHOOL has raised money for a charity which helps young people with disabilities.

Malvern Special Families, which provide clubs for children with disabilities aged between five and 18 in ‘out of school’ hours in Malvern and in Worcester, received the £4,000 donation.

Gareth Jones, chief executive of the charity, collected the money from Lucy Hawkins from The Friends of The Downs Malvern.

Alastair Cook, headteacher from the school in Brockhill Road, said: “A huge thread of kindness runs through this happy school and I am immensely proud of all of the work the children do for a wide variety of charities, both local and international.

“Their concerns for others is obvious and they all get a huge amount of pleasure from this charity work."

After making a video presentation to the children, Mr Jones said: “I was absolutely delighted when Lucy Hawkins rang me up to inform me that the money raised on behalf of Malvern Special Families had reached a mammoth total.

“We are privileged that The Downs Malvern thought of us when deciding which local charity to support.

“The money will make a real difference to our children and enable us to purchase equipment and organise trips which, without this money, we would really struggle to fund.

“On behalf of Malvern Special Families, I would like to thank Lucy and her superb team of parents who worked tirelessly to make the Christmas Fayre such a success. I would also like to thank the children who spent their pocket money on the day and showed such an interest in what we do.”

The Christmas Fayre was a success for the school and the stall holders with a constant flow of visitors throughout the day.

There was a selection of local stall holders, with craft, food and drink, clothing and art on offer, as well as many other unique stalls.
