SIR – With the recent figure of more than 1,000 people waiting for social housing, are we really surprised? One of Worcester’s many flaws is that is doesn’t seem to be able to plan for future growth. The single-lane road bridge built 35 years ago is proof that we have no sense of population growth. With the ever expanding university and many homes being turned in HMOs to accommodate the students, there was always going to be a severe lack of housing. The extremely poor public transport system and permanently gridlocked traffic makes commuting into the wider Worcester area almost impossible. Therefore if you wish to work in Worcester, you really have to live close. So, the few available houses are being bought by working families and those waiting for social houses are facing many more years of poor temporary accommodation.
