RESIDENTS have said two crashes in as many weeks have been caused by a mud flood on the road freezing and creating an ice rink.

Residents say the muddy road has been caused by a collapsed drain.

Elliot Hall, 47, said: “There has been another accident on Ockeridge Lane. A few weeks back a lady lost control and drove into a hedge.

“I warned the council after the first crash that there would be another one, and still nothing has been done. Next time it could be fatal.”

Mr Hall says despite him and other residents complaining to the Worcestershire County Council the road has been like this for nine months.

He said: “We are sick and tired of this, our cars are always filthy and our road has become an accident hot spot. It is not good enough.”

Police have confirmed they were called out to Ockeridge Lane at 7.24am yesterday to a road traffic collision involving a single car which was on its side. The driver was female and sustained no injuries.

Owner of Rowley Farm on Ockeridge Lane and Holt Heath parish councillor, Claire John said: “The flooding on the road is due to a collapsed drain.

“It has been like it for months, I have raised it several times with Highways and the parish council leader but they don’t seem to see it as an urgent matter.

“It’s really wearing, we have had to help people out of the huge pothole down the lane and honestly believe lives could be lost if the road isn’t sorted.”

“The council seem to be waiting for the water to dry up, but it never will because the problem is being caused by the drainage.”

A spokesman for Worcestershire County Council said: “We have been responding promptly to a number of issues that have been raised at this location for recent years.

“Warning signs are currently out to inform drivers of the condition of the road and the drainage response team have been on site regularly during the recent period of wetter weather.”
