WORCESTER residents are being advised to prepare for floods that could hit.

Storm Ciara and heavy rain in recent days has led to the river Severn being at 3.73m, which is above the 3.35m level where flooding is possible.

A flood alert warning said: "Flooding may be affecting South Quay, Diglis Parade and the Hylton Road towpath.

"Flooding from drains may also be affecting the racecourse and the Worcester County Cricket Ground. Predicted peaks (on February 12) Worcester 4.4m to 4.5m, Diglis 3.6m to 3.8m and Kempsey 5.1 to 5.5.

The storm has still been causing some disruption yesterday as Cafe Viaduct in Grand Stand Road was forced to close early.

A sign on its window said: "Due to intermittent power cuts which are expected to continue throughout the day, we have made the decision to close. Sorry for any inconvenience."

Meanwhile a new storm could be set to sweep through Worcestershire this weekend.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for wind, warning Storm Dennis could bring winds of up to 70mph on Saturday.

The warning says: "Storm Dennis will bring very strong winds and potential for disruption to many parts of England.

"There is a small chance of injuries and danger to life from flying debris. There is a slight chance of some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs.

"There is a small chance of longer journey times or cancellations as road, rail, air and ferry services are affected.

"There is a small chance that some roads and bridges could close.

"There is a slight chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage."

The forecast for the next few days is light rain shows and a moderate breeze, before the storm arrives at the weekend.
