The February half-term can always be a bit of a challenge, much relies on the weather and if things don’t go so well on that front, it can turn into an expensive week.

Here are a few local options which may keep the kids amused without breaking the bank!

Top of the list is Freedom Leisure’s free sports offer for children aged two up to18.

Worcester Woods is always a big hit, providing the weather is reasonable. Lots to see and do, a family picnic site, free parking, buggy and wheelchair friendly and you can take the dog.

Staying outdoors, Top Barn at Holt Health will reopen after a very soggy winter just in time for the February half-term and it’s free. Bring a picnic, park for free, visit the alpaca and have a top day at Top Barn.

If the weather takes a turn for the worst, drop in to The Hive in Worcester for some free fun. Science, stories and history are all on offer.

Worcester Arts Workshop is screening the 1994 version of The Lion King on Tuesday, February, 11am. Adult tickets are just £3 each and under 12s just 99p (booking fees apply).

If the kids have a smart phone or a camera maybe it’s time to put it to good use. The RSPCA’s photography completion is worth a look, lots of categories to choose from and big prizes.

Finally, for children (and adults) who have a way with words, check out Evesham Festival of Words’ short story competition. Free entry for kids and great prizes for the winning stories. eveshamfestivalofwords.org.

I hope that it stays dry. Good luck!
