Ledbury Poetry Festival’s 2020 Poetry Competition is now open for entries, and the judge will be the Black Country poet, Liz Berry.

She born in the Black Country and now lives in Birmingham. Her first book of poems, Black Country (Chatto 2014), described as a ‘sooty, soaring hymn to her native West Midlands’ (Guardian) was a Poetry Book Society recommendation. It also won the Forward Prize for Best First Collection.

The competition carries a first prize of £1000 and a residential course at Tŷ Newydd Writing Centre in Wales.

And competition winners will also have the opportunity to read their poems at the Ledbury Poetry Festival, in 2021.

The closing date for the competition will be Thursday July16, 2020. Entry forms and full details of the Adult, Young People and Children’s Competition are available online at
