BEWDLEY Bridge was last night closed and environment officers were being sent to the scene.

People who live close to Beale’s Corner and have property level protection, were urged to deploy it yesterday as flood waters rose.

A Wyre Forest council spokesman said that the Severnside barriers will be complete ready for today's projected peak.

They added that the EA is reviewing whether or not to erect the Beale’s Corner barriers before Tuesday.

Bewdley Bridge, Stourport Road/Beale’s Corner are shut (A456 by pass is open); Severnside flood defences now in place in Bewdley.

A diversion has been put in place via A456 Bewdley by-pass.

Residents living near Eastham Bridge in Worcestershire described 48 hours of chaos as they lost count of the number of vehicles - including a fire engine and a petrol tanker - caught in floodwaters.

At least seven vehicles were still stranded near the bridge on Monday - with residents relating how a helicopter equipped with a searchlight was used to rescue the driver of a 4x4.

One local woman aged in her mid-70s said she had never seen flooding so severe at Eastham Bridge, near Tenbury Wells, where a fire crew was trapped while attending a risk-to-life call.

Houses have been flooded in Wolverley following a night of severe rainfall caused by Storm Dennis.

Wyre Forest District Council said that six homes, a pub and cafe were affected and the road is still flooded in the village centre.

They have urged people to observe the road closure signs, follow diversions and refrain from moving signs and driving through the water.

A Kidderminster road reopened amidst strong gale force winds causing havoc in Worcestershire.

Police previously closed Blackwell Street leading onto the Ringway whilst a property was made safe.
