Parents and carers in Worcestershire who have children with disabilities are set to benefit from a year of fundraising activities.

Staff from Sanctuary Group’s Worcester office will be supporting Worcestershire Parents and Carers’ Community throughout 2020 after choosing it as their Charity of the Year.

A host of events are planned to raise important funds for the charity including bake sales and dress-down days as well as football and cricket matches.

Worcestershire Parents and Carers’ Community support around 160 families across the county who have a child or young adult with a disability or additional need.

The charity offers opportunities for families to socialise and enjoy days out in a fun and supportive environment.

It also runs a dedicated youth group for 13½ to 19-year-olds to enable young people to socialise with each other and develop friendships, while there are plans to launch a similar group for those aged 18 to 25.

Joint Co-ordinator Audrey de Garis said: “One thing our families have in common is a wish to provide opportunities for all our children to reach their potential and make their lives better.

“We aim to encourage families to go out and take part in activities they might not otherwise do, while also provide a supportive environment in which the whole family can feel at ease and begin to develop their own support networks.

“We are so grateful to Sanctuary staff for selecting us as their Charity of the Year and look forward to working with them over the months ahead.”

Sanctuary Group Chief Executive Craig Moule commented: “Worcestershire Parents and Carers’ Community is a charity whose important work I am learning more about every day.

“It is vital that families are able to access the support they need and through the generosity of our staff I am confident we will be able to help them to continue to provide this.”
