A FOOTBALL club is hosting a swab event today, to help eight-year-old Lily May Filmer who has leukaemia and needs a blood stem cell transplant.

Anyone between the ages of 18-55 and in general good health can register and give a simple swab sample to see if they are a match for Lily, or anyone else who needs a blood stem cell transplant.

The swab drive will take place today from 10am until 4pm at Pershore Town Football Club.

There will be a raffle, face painting, and entertainment from Princess Elsa from Frozen.

The club has raised over £3000 for DKMS so far.

A second DKMS swab event will be held on Wednesday March 4th at St Barnabas CE First and Middle School in Drakes Broughton.

Lily's mum Kayleigh Chapman said: "It's absolutely amazing. They (the football club and the school) have taken so much pressure off me. I wanted to do these events but I physically don't have time to do it. They have said, 'leave it to us."

Mrs Chapman wants as many people to register as possible.

"It gives other people the opportunity to get their transplants too. It's not just Lily. The more people that join the register the more people that are in need of stem cells get that chance."
