HEREFORDSHIRE Council has taken action to ensure its website fully complies with laws to protect visitors’ privacy.

A survey by the BBC found two out of three councils in the country – including Herefordshire – were not asking visitors for consent on installing ‘cookies.’

These are special tracking files placed on your computer when you visit a website. They can be used to try to improve the website for the visitor, but also for advertising.

Since the survey the council has rolled out a prompt which gives visitors a choice.

A spokesperson said: “Cookies are restricted to those which improve the visitor’s experience.

“Positive customer experience is a priority.”

Unlike many councils, Herefordshire does not allow third party adverts.
