WITNESSES who spoke to the man accused of murdering pensioner Desmond Wooding have told a jury that he came across as a “normal bloke” just minutes after the alleged killing.

Adam Mason, 33, of Plough Lane, Tibberton, denies murdering Mr Wooding, who was his great uncle, at the 80-year-old’s home in Vines Lane, Droitwich, on June 23 last year. Mark Mason, 55, also of Plough Lane, Tibberton, is alleged to have driven Adam Mason, his nephew, away from the scene, with the prosecution saying he intended to impede the apprehension or prosecution of Adam, knowing or believing him to be guilty of the murder or another offence.

Earlier in the Worcester Crown Court trial, the jury heard that CCTV captured Adam Mason near the Gardeners Arms pub at 8.40pm and then at the end of Vines Lane at 9pm on June 23. Other people on the CCTV took just minutes to pass between the two cameras but Adam Mason took 20 minutes and the prosecution say that is when he committed the murder.

On Friday Vines Lane residents Brian and Shane Cossum-Lawley, brothers, gave evidence about how they were approached by Adam Mason at 9.10pm while they were outside working on their Ford Mustang.

Adrian Keeling, prosecuting, asked Brian: “What did you talk about?” He replied: “He said ‘nice car’ and started asking questions about it. That was about it.”

Mr Keeling asked: “How long did that conversation go on for?” Brian replied: “Less than a minute.”

In cross examination, David Mason asked if the man had appeared nervous or anxious. Brian Cossum-Lawley replied “No”.

The barrister asked the same question to his brother Shane, and he replied: “He looked like a normal bloke, walking his dog.” The barrister also asked both witnesses whether Adam Mason had anything with him, and both replied “No”.

The trial continues.
