WHILE the focus has been on the flooding, these pictures spectacularly show what a battering we took from storm winds.

These trees were among four uprooted in Bishops Meadow, Hereford. The council were called out to 10 jobs relating to trees between February 14 and 20. Three fallen trees were removed and two were felled.

Storms Dennis clocked a highest speed of 140mph – almost twice the speed of the top rating of 12 in the Beaufort Wind Scale. Thankfully, it was out at sea.

Top speed in Britain during Storm Ciara was 96mph. It normally takes a wind of above 55mph to uproot a tree.

Bishops Meadow is owned by Herefordshire Council which says it has to make sure conditions are safe before the trees are removed. They will be replaced, plus another 10 planted.

The council has responsibility for around 23,000 park trees plus thousands more along roadsides. The council aim to get to a fallen tree on a road in two hours.
