A WOMAN is asking for the public’s help to find a reckless driver after she was involved in a hit and run incident.

Sarah Stratton-Smith, from Worcester, told the Worcester News she felt scared after a driver, travelling from the opposite direction on Alcester Road, hit her car and then failed to stop.

She said: “It was dark, and I could see this car coming towards me. As it got closer, I could see it had gone over the white line.

“The next minute I heard a horrible noise. The popping of my tyre and the crunching of my car. I screamed.

“It was so scary. It’s the shock and trauma of it all.”

Miss Stratton-Smith said she pulled over after the crash, while the other driver ‘put their foot down.’

“They didn’t even brake. Because of my burst tyre I couldn’t follow them to get their number plate,” she added.

The front of Miss Stratton-Smith’s car is destroyed – the driver’s side wing mirror, the tyre and the door are severely damaged.

She said she couldn’t get out of the car because the front of the driver’s side was so damaged, so she was forced to climb out from the passenger’s door.

Miss Stratton-Smith, aged 48, added: “Who does that to someone? They didn’t even brake – they didn’t know the outcome. I could have ended up in a ditch.

“I was down a country road all alone.

“There is someone out there who was driving irresponsibly and the next person they hit might not be so lucky.”

She added: “I feel very cautious now of oncoming vehicles. I have not driven in the dark since and I will not go back to that road.”

Miss Stratton-Smith said she collected her own evidence from the road in Worcester, and found the driver’s wing mirror.

She added: “That person has got to go to a garage as well because you can’t drive without a wing mirror, it’s illegal.”

It will cost Miss Stratton-Smith £90 to get a new wing mirror, but she is unsure how much it will cost to get a new tyre and paintwork.
