MALVERN Rugby Club has has its pitch transformed for VE Day with a special message marking the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.

Stunning aerial photos show the VE Day commemorative rainbow display painted at the club, was also created to thank NHS staff and key workers including Air Ambulance crews based nearby.

The display, which features a painted rainbow and thank you message to the NHS and key workers, was created by Malvern firm Fleet Line Markers.

Iain Courage, international sales director for Fleet, said: “A couple of weeks ago Julie Wills, head teacher of Upton Upon Severn Primary School, contacted me.

“Julie asked for our assistance in creating and painting a Rainbow on the School’s playing field as a thank you to the NHS and all the other key workers.

“We were more than happy to oblige so my colleague, Chris, and myself set about painting a very large rainbow. The aerial shot was taken by the Air Ambulance who are based nearby.

“One week later, Trudy Neal, from Malvern Community Hospital contacted us after seeing the Rainbow in Upton. Trudy asked if we could paint a much smaller Rainbow outside the entrance to the Hospital Reception.

“Once again, we were more than happy to oblige. The location of this one brings a smile to faces of Staff and visitors entering and leaving the Hospital.

“So this week, we wanted to do another Rainbow but with a variation to the theme. We are painting a Rainbow to say thanks to all key workers and celebrating VE DAY.”

Mr Courage and his team also painted the rainbow on the playing fields at Upton Primary School.

The rainbow is 30 metres across, took two people from Fleet Line Markers five hours to paint, and will last for around three weeks.

The messages were painted at Upton and Malvern so the Midlands Air Ambulance crews based at Strensham could see them while taking off and landing.
